Beyond the Visible: The Art of Walking by Faith

We live in a world dominated by "screens." We are constantly bombarded by images, numbers, news, and sensory inputs that dictate our moods. We are told repeatedly that "seeing is believing." However, Scripture proposes a revolutionary, almost paradoxical vision: "For we walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7).

But what does this mean in practical terms when you wake up in the morning facing bills, conflicts, or uncertainties?

1. The Conflict of Lenses: Sight vs. Faith

Sight and the senses are survival tools, but they are limited. They only show us the surface of things.

  • Sight says: "The wall is too high."

  • Faith says: "God is the One who brings walls down."

Walking by faith is not a denial of reality (we don’t pretend the wall isn't there); rather, it is a prioritization of the Supreme Reality. It means recognizing that what God has said in His Word is more true and stable than what you feel in your body or see in your bank account.

2. The Trap of the Senses: Why "Feelings" Deceive Us

Feelings are like the weather—they change from hour to hour. If you walk by your senses, you are like a boat without an anchor:

  • When you "feel" God's presence, you are full of zeal.

  • When you "feel" silence, you believe you’ve been abandoned.

Being pleasing to God means choosing to trust His character even when the internal "weather" is stormy. Faith is the decision to stay on course, relying on the compass (Scripture), not the scenery passing by the window.

3. The Anatomy of a Life Lived "by Faith"

ContextReaction by Sight (Senses)Reaction by Faith
Financial CrisisAnxiety, sleepless nights, scarcity mindset.Peace, wise planning, generosity.
Sickness / PainDespair, isolation, "victim" identity.Declaring healing, trusting in Sovereignty.
Difficult RelationshipsReacting to offense, bitterness, defensiveness.Anticipated forgiveness, unconditional love.

4. How Do We Train Our "Spiritual Eyes"?

No one learns to walk by faith overnight. It is a process of re-educating the mind:

  • Feed your convictions, not your fears: Whatever you look at the most becomes your reality. If you only watch the news, you will see a world in collapse. If you look at Scripture, you will see a King on His throne.

  • Act before you feel: Do not wait for the "feeling" of forgiveness to forgive. Forgive by decision, and the feelings will eventually align.

  • Recognize the "Unseen Army": Like Elisha, remember that behind every visible challenge, there is an army of spiritual resources ready to intervene.

Conclusion: Why is this lifestyle pleasing to God?

God is not looking for puppets who only act when they receive tangible proof. He is looking for partners who know His heart so well that they trust Him even in the dark. Walking by faith is the highest act of honor a human can bring to their Creator.

When you choose to hang a verse on your wall, to smile at someone who hurt you, or to give thanks for a solution that hasn't appeared yet, you aren't just "surviving." You are walking on water, turning the invisible into reality.

"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1)
